3 houses swept away by flood in Cavite
Raging floodwater swept away three houses in Silang, Cavite, on Tuesday, as rains brought by Tropical Depression Maring caused a creek in Barangay Kalubkob to overflow, a provincial disaster official told QRT.
Claudette Trixia Flores, public relations officer of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said the foundation of the houses may have softened due to the floodwater.
Following this, she said the local government is keeping a close watch on the Ilang-Ilang River in Noveleta and Bakaw River in General Trias City due to continued moderate to heavy rains in the province.
"Umabot po halos sa 6.27 meters yung height po ng kanilang ilog, pero sa ngayon nag-subside na ho siya and binabantayan yung Bakaw River sa city of General Trias," Flores said.
The incident and continued flooding prompted Silang Mayor Emilia Poblete to order residents living near bodies of water to evacuate and temporarily seek shelter in their barangay halls.
At least 80 families have already been evacuated from heavily affected areas.
Flores appealed to the public to heed official announcements and calls by local officials.
"Manatili po tayong updated and informed po sa official announcements at pag nagkaroon po ng patawag yung atin pong mga barangay, yung atin pong mga local Disaster Risk Reduction Management officers, o mga mayors po natin ng forced evacuation or pre-emptive evacuation, sumunod na po tayo para maging ligtas
po tayo at hindi na po tayo ma-apektuhan ng anumang further damages or untoward incidents," she said. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
