CHED officially recognizes Cotabato's first sci-tech school


KIDAPAWAN CITY — After four years of waiting, Cotabato province now officially has its first science and technology tertiary school.

The Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) regional office in SOCCSKSARGEN on July 4 issued Resolution No. 463-2017, recognizing the Makilala Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) as a higher education institution.

Dr. Pedro Rigonan was officially named as president of the last July 28 during an investiture led by CHED-12 regional director Dr. Maximo Aljibe.

The MIST, the first LGU-led tertiary school in Cotabato, was established through Municipal Ordinance No. 275 on March 31, 2014 of Makilala's town council.

The school, which opened on June 2014, offers free tuition and miscellaneous fees for residents of Makilala, according to Mayor Rudy Caoagdan.

It offers two degree courses including Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and Bachelor of Agricultural Technology.

In June 2015, it offered additional courses including Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Associate in Computer Technology, Diploma in Midwifery, and Bachelor of Public Administration.

The MIST has also established a senior high school.

Caoagdan said that the MIST receives an annual P10-million funds from the local government.

The school has 25 faculty members and at least 500 students. —ALG, GMA News
