Tricycle accident claims life of young pharmacist in Pangasinan
A 21-year-old pharmacist was killed when she fell off a tricycle driven by her boyfriend in Malasiqui, Pangasinan, according to a report by GMA News stringer Joanne Ponsoy on Balita Pilipinas on Tuesday.
Joanna Marie de Guzman was rushed to a hospital following the incident but she was pronounced dead on arrival by medics, the report said.
Police said the tricycle overturned when its sidewheel hit a bamboo road marker in Barangay Nalsian Norte. De Guzman, who was on her way home from work in Nueva Ecija, was seated behind her boyfriend, Jonald Ico.
De Guzman's parents called for an autopsy as they doubt that what happened was an accident, the report said.
Reynanto de Guzman said he spoke with his daughter a day before the accident. Nabigla ako, akala ko nagta-trabaho, nag-usap kami pa sa Linggo, sabi ko, mag-ingat ka sa sarili mo, " he said.
Ico was detained for 18 hours before he was released when no complaint was filed against him
Meanwhile, also in Pangasinan, two people were killed when a motorcycle crashed head-on with a minibus along the National Highway in Barangay Salomague Norte, Bugallon.
The police detained the bus driver, Willy Vargas, who claimed the victims, identified as Gonzalo Calulut and Julius Garcia, were both drunk. He also said the two went to the opposite lane and smashed into his bus.
"Sinakop na po 'yung linya ko, lasing na lasing po sila," Vargas said.
Garcia's sister confirmed that the two victims were drinking before the accident happened.
Police also blamed the slippery road caused by rain for the accident. —Margaret Claire Layug/KBK, GMA News
