San Mateo man hacked to pieces for allegedly stealing cellphone charger

Two siblings were arrested in San Mateo town in Rizal for allegedly dismembering a man who stole their cellphone charger, GMA News' Cesar Apolinario reported on 24 Oras on Thursday.

The dismembered remains of the victim, identified as Lyndon Masinsin, 19, were found buried at a compound in Brgy. Ampid Dos following a tip from the owner of the property, the exclusive report said.

Authorities are still looking for a third suspect, the report added. The three, two of them minors, have already been charged with murder.

"Ikinuwento nung mga suspect kung bakit di nila nasagawa yung krimen dahil magnanakaw daw di umano yung Lyndon, dahil sa charger na nawawala," PO3 Reynante Buenaventura said.

Police said the siblings, aged 16 and 17, chopped Masinsin to pieces first in their home before transferring each part of his body to the part of the compound where his remains were found last April 11.

The suspects allegedly tried to burn the body first before burying it.

A CCTV footage taken on April 2 showed the siblings and another person pushing a wheelbarrow with what was believed to be Masinsin's remains on it.

A screenshot from a chat room exchange between one of the suspects and a witness showed the suspects were entertaining the idea of beating up Masinsin for allegedly stealing a cellphone charger.

Masinsin's father, Michael, said his son had been missing for two weeks before his body was found.

The court stopped Masinsin's burial on May 3 to wait for the results of the DNA test conducted by police on his body to confirm his identity. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
