Saulog Festival celebration in Bohol, peaceful — police

Strict security measures were implemented in Tagbilaran City during the celebration of the annual Saulog Festival on Monday.

This was due in part to the recent armed encounter between the military and members of the Abu Sayyaf Group and with the continuing pursuit operations against three other members of the bandit group that are still at large.

The Saulog Festival, an annual cultural activity to honor St. Joseph the Worker, was inspired by the local word “saulog,” which means celebration.

The activities went on as planned, including the Street dancing competition and the search for the Festival King and Queen.

The contestants wore colorful costumes as they danced along the main parade route.

In a statement, the Bohol Provincial Police office said the conduct of the festivities was peaceful and there were no threats to security during the celebration. — Leo Udtohan/BAP, GMA News
