Ex-vice mayor of Sto. Tomas, La Union gunned down

Former vice mayor of Sto. Tomas, La Union Vincent Rafanan was shot to death by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday night, a report on Unang Balita on Friday said.

Rafanan, 42, was still in his car resting from driving when the gunmen fired.

Also killed was Rafanan's companion, Beatriz Sakamoto, 31.

The crime happened along Marcos Highway in Pugo, La Union.

The victims were brought to the La Union Medical Center in Agoo but they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said Rafanan was a high value target and was among the top five on their drug watchlist.

They added that they have tried to convince Rafanan to surrender before to clear his name.

Investigators are checking if the crime was related to illegal drugs. —KG, GMA News
