Quake-hit Wao town in Lanao del Sur under state of calamity
The local government of Wao town in Lanao del Sur on Monday declared a state of calamity due to the damage incurred by its 14 barangays following last week's magnitude 6.0 quake.
A News TV Live report said three out of the 14 barangays in Wao, namely Serran, Panang, and Park Area, were most affected by the quake.
The Municipal Council of Wao cited Republic Act No. 10121 or the Philippine Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, which states that the declaration and lifting of the state of calamity may also be issued by the Local Sanggunian, upon the recommendation of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, based on the results of the Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis.
The assessment of the MDRRMC showed that 14 barangays were severely affected and damaged and more than 1,000 families.
The damage to private and public infrastructures reached about P25,000,000.
The quake was followed by a 5.3-magnitude tremor in the same town on the morning of April 13. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/KBK/BAP, GMA News
