Another quake hits Lanao del Sur


A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit Wao town in Lanao del Sur early morning Thursday, a day after the same area was hit by magnitude 6 quake.

According to Phivolcs, the epicenter was 8 kilometers northwest of Wao town with a depth of 6 kilometers occurred on 4:01 a.m. and was tectonic in origin. 

Damage and aftershocks are expected, the agency said in its report.

An Intensity VI quake was felt in Kalilangan town in Bukidnon, Intensity V quake was felt in Wao town in Lanao del Surand Valencia City in Bukidnon while Intensity IV ws felt in the towns of Kadingilan, Maramag, and Pangantucan in Bukidnon.

Intensity III was felt in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. In the cities of Cotabato and Kidapawan, the residents experienced an Intensity II quake.

On Instrumental Intentisities, Intensity III was recorded for Cagayan de Oro city and Intensity II for Koronadal town in South Cotabato and Kidapawan City.

As of posting time, Jennie Alonto Tamano of the Lanao del sur Provincial Information Office told GMA News Online that power supply in the town of Wao was restored by 5:30 a.m. on Thursday. The water supply in the town was not affected.

Aftershocks are still felt by the residents almost a day after a magnitude 6 quake hit the town.

The provincial government is also preparing relief goods for distribution to affected families in wao and Amai Manabilang towns. — BAP, GMA News
