Sanitary napkin, plastic trash can kill dolphins
Sanitary napkin and other types of plastic trashes can kill a dolphin.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Saturday reported that a Risso's dolphin had died after being found in the shores of Padre Burgos in Quezon province last Thursday.
It said that the dolphin was already fighting for its life when found by fishermen. They tried to revive it for hours, but failed.
The BFAR said the dolphin died due to dehydration, malnutrition and infections.
During necropsy, the BFAR said its employees recovered a sanitary napkin, foam, a hook and other plastic products from the dolphin's stomach.
The bureau pleaded to the public to avoid throwing plastic products into oceans and any bodies of water. —with a report from Peewee Bacuño/Anna Felicia Bajo/GMA News
