ILIGAN City – A businessman who owned a chain of establishments in the city was killed in a gun attack while in a restaurant last Thursday.
City Police chief Senior Supt. Leony Roy Ga, in a text message to GMA News Online, identified the victim as Jerry Winces Salatan Chin, a resident of Barangay Palao.
An initial police investigation showed that Salatan was inside the Veqs Food Corner at corner Lluch and Tino Badelles Streets when the attack happened at about 9:45 a.m.
A gunman wearing a black jacket and a helmet barged into the eatery and shot the victim several times, Ga said, adding that the assailant fled on a motorcycle.
Authorities recovered from Slatan's pocket four heat-sealed plastic packs containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu.
Seven bullet shells of a cal-.45 handgun were also recovered from the crime scene.
Chin's family has denied allegations that the victim was involved in drugs trade.
Police are now hunting the gunman and determining the motive for the crime. —Mariz Revales with a report from Merlyn Manos/LBG, GMA News
