Legazpi bishop expresses concern about extrajudicial killings

Bishop Joel Baylon of the Diocese of Legazpi expressed concern over the rising number of extrajudicial killings in the government's war on drugs, a report on Unang Balita on Monday said.

In an open letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte which was read in all Masses in churches in Albay, Bishop Baylon said they are supporting the administration's efforts to address the drug problem but are alarmed about the drug killings.

Many of the suspects killed during anti-drug operations were from the poor.

"Mr. President, we reiterate... killing is morally and legally wrong," Bishop Baylon said.

The Philippine National Police on Wednesday said it has conducted 36,311 anti-drug operations since July 1 to Nov. 23, and 1,941 persons were killed in the process. —KG, GMA News
