Drug suspect Raul Yap laid to rest
Drug suspect Raul Yap, a detainee who was recently killed along with Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa following an alleged shootout inside a jail facility early this month, was laid to rest on Monday.
Two of Yap's siblings who are based abroad attended the burial at a cemetery in Albuera town, according to a GMA News TV Live report on Tuesday.
Elements from the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Eastern Visayas were serving a search warrant on Yap on November 5 for charges related to Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act 9165) when the detainee allegedly put up a fight, resulting in his death inside the Leyte Sub-Provincial Jail in Baybay City.
Some of those who showed up at the funeral, however, appeared to be not convinced about the police's claim as they sought justice for Yap.
It was not immediately clear what steps the family will take against the policemen who carried out the bloody search operation, which triggered separate investigations by the Senate, PNP, National Police Commission, and the National Bureau of Investigation. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ/KBK, GMA News
