Victims of supertyphoon Lawin in Isabela ask for help

Residents affected by supertyphoon Lawin in Isabela pleaded for help on Wednesday after their homes were badly damaged, a News TV Live report on Thursday said.

Families in the town of Sto. Tomas cried for assistance due to difficulties in finding a place to settle in and making ends meet.

Among those affected include the Gabani family in Barangay Bagabag who still stay inside their almost flattened home.

Judilyn Gabani, a mother of four, said the family is struggling to survive since her husband left her and went to Visayas.

Gabani said she is only relying on the income she receives from doing laundry and harvesting crops.

Meanwhile, the report said local government personnel are visiting areas severely affected by supertyphoon Lawin.

Isabela was placed under a state of calamity since September because of drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

Governor Faustino Dy III said the devastation from typhoons Karen and Lawin and the El Niño caused an estimated P1.4 billion damage in agriculture. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/KG, GMA News
