Typhoon Karen leaves two dead in Catanduanes; Pampanga areas flooded

Two people died and three were reported missing in Catanduanes after Typhoon Karen cut across Luzon over the weekend, a report on Unang Balita said.

The fatalities were identified as Felicito Tesorero and Rene Magtangob.

Tesorero fell to the ground while reaching for his carabao during the height of the typhoon's heavy rains and suffered a heart attack.

No details were given by authorities regarding Magtangob's death.

The three men reported missing are fishermen who left for the sea on Tuesday.

Catanduanes was one of the areas hardest hit by Typhoon Karen.

The weather improved on Sunday in the province.

Typhoon Karen exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Monday morning, PAGASA said.

Pampanga

Meanwhile in Pampanga, flooding was reported in Guagua, reaching houses in Brgy. Sto. Cristo and Brgy. Bancal, a report by Tricia Zafra on Unang Balita said.

The water reached the knee level due to the heavy rains and the high tide.

Some residents took advantage of the flooding which affected fish ponds by catching fish.

In Arayat, heavy rains also reached the first level of two-storey houses.

Tarlac

In Tarlac, a shanty was destroyed by heavy rains and strong winds.

Residents tried their best to save whatever items they could.

They said flooding in the area may be avoided if a series of dams will be constructed in Central Luzon. —KG, GMA News
