Mark Anthony Fernandez in cramped prison cell with 100 inmates
The Angeles City police remained true to their word that they will not give Mark Anthony Fernandez any special treatment as the actor was placed in a cramped prison cell with 102 other inmates.
A “News To Go” report on Tuesday said Fernandez’s new cell in the Angeles District Jail, where the actor was transferred last Saturday, can only accommodate 20 persons.
The Angeles District Jail has a congestion rate of 1,210 percent, the report added.
Fernandez’s camp has since appealed to the court to transfer him to the bigger Pampanga Provincial Jail in San Fernando City, but no decision has been made yet.
Angeles District Jail Senior Inspector Xavier Solda said they treat Fernandez like any other inmate.
“Mayaman, mahirap, pare-pareho treatment namin. Kung ano tinutulugan, doon siya matutulog. Kung ano ang kinakain, ganun din kakainin ni Mr. Fernandez,” Solda said.
Alma Moreno, Fernandez’s mother, and their lawyer Atty. Sylvia Flores visited the actor around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
A GMA News report said the actor had breakfast with his mother.
Jail authorities said relatives may only visit inmates from 1 to 4 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday, but they are allowed to see the inmate outside the visiting hours if they are accompanied by a lawyer.
Fernandez was arrested in Angeles City, Pampanga last week for the alleged possession of a kilo of marijuana.
