Scavengers gather, eat expired DSWD relief goods in Dumaguete

A truck full of expired relief goods was found by scavengers buried at a dumpsite in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, a report by Balitanghali on Friday said.

The relief goods were allegedly disposed by personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) after their expiration date.

Scavengers were seen gathering edibles such as canned goods and noodles to eat despite the presence of rust on some cans.

An unnamed DSWD official told GMA News that they will investigate how the scavengers were able to acquire the relief goods past their discardment. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
