Iloilo mayor denies Duterte's allegation, fears for safety

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog on Sunday denied President Rodrigo Duterte's allegation that he was involved in the illegal drug trade.

In a statement, Mabilog said he finds it “very unfortunate and disconcerting” that his name was included in the list of more than 150 personalities publicly disclosed by Duterte.

“I can categorically say that I am not involved in the protection, trade, and use of illegal drugs. I am willing to open myself for any investigation, cooperate and submit myself to any court of law,” he said.

Mabilog also appealed for a speedy conduct of investigation, as he feared for his and his family's safety.

“Since this is an urgent matter which endanger my personal security and that of my family, I request that the authorities conduct a speedy investigation for I, too wanted the truth and nothing but the truth to come out,” he said.

“It is only fair that since my name has been called out, that I can be accorded with the speedy investigation,” the mayor added.

Mabilog was among the local government officials who surfaced to tell their side of the story.

At least three mayors, including Mayor Goto Violago of San Rafael, Bulacan, also showed up at the national police headquarters to deny Duterte's allegations. —ALG, GMA News
