Cavite town offers coastal clean up as part of drug rehab program

Individuals who came out and admitted using illegal drugs undergo a unique rehabilitation program in Noveleta town in Cavite province, GMA's John Consulta reported on "Saksi."

There had been suspected drug pushers and users who were identified and told to reform their ways in the past weeks.

Some of those identified under "Oplan Tokhang" underwent a shame campaign initiated by a local government unit wherein they are made to prade through the streets wearing a sign that they are drug pushers and users around their neck.

Meanwhile, there are others who end up being killed.

In the unique program in Cavite, drug rehabilitation involves cleaning up the coastline of Noveleta town.

"Rod (not his real name)," preferred the town's rehab program.

"Mas gusto ko pang mabuhay tapos tumulong para mapangalagaan yung pamilya ko. Marami pa pong umaasa sa akin," he said.

Noveleta Mayor Dino Reyes-Chua said: "Sumama po lahat para ipakita na sila po ay hindi outcast at tanggap sila ng society, na gustong-gusto silang tulungan para mag bagong buhay." — BAP, GMA News
