Fishing ban up in Baler waters due to Typhoon Butchoy
Local disaster response officials in Aurora province have banned fishing activities in the seas of Baler town due to typhoon Butchoy.
This after state weather bureau PAGASA issued a gale warning on Wednesday to caution small fishing vessels against venturing out into sea.
PAGASA raised gale warnings over northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon.
Also, the province has dispatched disaster response teams to patrol its coasts and warn beach-goers of the big waves.
Typhoon Butchoy's center was last spotted 330 km east of Basco town in Batanes.
Butchoy apacks a maximum sustained winds of 220 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph. It moves northwest at a 25 kph.
While landfall is unlikely, Butchoy will enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Hanging Habagat, which will bring moderate to heavy rains particularly in western parts of the country.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 remains raised over Batanes, Calayan and the Babuyan Group of Islands.
