19-year-old PMA cadet dies during training in Cavite
A Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadet died while undergoing field training exercise in Ternate town in Cavite last week, the military said Monday.
Cadet Fourth Class John Benedict Margin, 19 and from Binangonan, Rizal, died of heat exhaustion while on a road run inside the Marine Base Gregorio Lim, the military said.
According to the military, Margin was in the middle of a road run on his way to a bivouac area inside the Marine facility on Monday afternoon last week when he collapsed.
A medical team brought him to the medical dispensary where he was declared dead after several attempts to revive him.
"The road run was part of the cadets’ routine physical conditioning," the military statement said. "The joint field training exercise proceeded despite the isolated case and culminated yesterday."
Margin is among the 1,168 cadets who went to Marine Base Gregorio Lim in Ternate on May 28 for a joint field training exercise. His remains were first taken to the AFP Medical Center in Quezon City and then to a funeral homes in Binangonan. He will be buried on Wednesday. —KBK, GMA News
