Landslide renders highway in Quezon province impassable
A landslide in Mauban town rendered a highway leading to the Quezon Power Plant impassable on Thursday, provincial disaster response officials said.
Also, they said that another landslide incident was reported in Atimonan town but it is not affecting major roads there.
The Mauban landslide caused by heavy rain that has been going on for five days has blocked the national highway going to Barangay Cagsiay 1, local officials told GMA News.
Disaster monitoring by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office has continued as several towns in the province are landslide or flash-flood prone areas, the PDRRMO said.
Local officials of the towns of Real, Atimonan, Infanta, Genral Nakar, and Mauban are on alert against possible disasters brought about by continuous heavy rains.
Some students in Cabibihan and Tagkawayan towns have missed their classes due to flood waters from swollen river, they said.
The PDRRMO has advised motorists to avoid passing through the old Zig-zag Road in Atimonan as the road section is prone to landslides and rockfalls. — Peewee Bacuño/LBG, GMA News
