Nona death toll rises to 35


The official death from Typhoon Nona is now at 35, one more than the 34 tallied on Saturday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council identified the latest fatality as Jose Huiden, 21, who was hit by a tree branch in Bulan, Sorsogon.

The NDRRMC also reported that at least six people are missing after the storm hit parts of Luzon and Visayas in the past week, while at least 19,046 families or 87,743 persons in Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol are in 367 evacuation centers.

The council estimated the cost of damage to infrastructure and agriculture in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Eastern Visayas to be around P2.07 billion. However, while the NDRRMC reported P301 million worth of damage in Mimaropa, the  Office of Civil Defense estimated that the damage to agriculture, infrastructure and private property in the region has reached P2.13 billion.

Tropical Depression Onyok, meanwhile, has displaced 1,901 families or 8,472 persons in the provinces of Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Island, and Surigao del Sur, with many evacuees finding refuge in 38 evacuation centers.

According to the NDRRMC, while incidents of flooding and landslide in those areas have been attributed to Onyok, there have been no caualties reported so far. — BM, GMA News
