Sportscaster Anthony Suntay arrested for estafa

A sportscaster was arrested over the weekend for estafa, a TV report said Monday.

In her report aired on News To Go, GMA News' Katrina Son said Anthony Suntay is currently detained at the General Trias Police Headquarters in Cavite.

He was arrested past 9 p.m. on Saturday at Eagle Ridge, Barangay Manggahan, in a joint operation conducted by the Provincial Intelligence of Cavite Provincial Police Office and General Trias Police.

The warrant of arrest against Suntay was issued by Judge Eduardo Israel Tanguangco of Regional Trial Court Branch 89 of Bacoor, Cavite.

It has a recommended bail of around P40,000.

According to Son's report, they found Suntay walking around the police headquarters, accompanied by his manager.

Suntay's manager said they could not take footage of or have an interview with the sportscaster.

Asked for comment, Suntay said he didn't want to make the "small" issue bigger, and that he was due to be released once he posts bail, the report added. —Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/KG, GMA News
