20 flood-hit barangays in Bulacan town placed under state of calamity


Several barangays in Calumpit, Bulacan have been placed under a state of calamity due to severe flooding.
 
A radio dzBB report said that 24 of Calumpit town's 29 barangays were flooded.
 
It added that 20 flooded barangays have been placed under a state of calamity.
 
GMA News' Tina Panganiban-Perez tweeted pictures taken from flood-hit town.
 
 
Maj. Roberto Moralles of the 525th Engingeering Combat Battalion said their team brought three rubber boats for the rescue efforts in Calumpit town.
 
Moralles said that the rescue efforts is currently concentrated at Barangay Frances, which is now submerged in 2.6 meters (8.5 feet) of floodwater.

Reports on Tuesday night said that several residents trapped in their flooded houses were rescued in Calumpit town. Some of the residents were forced to stay on their home's rooftops.

Barangay Gatbuco, one of the affected areas in Calumpit town, was submerged in waist- to knee-deep floods.
 
An earlier News To go report said that more than 700 residents were seeking shelter at evacuation centers in Calumpit town.
 
The same report also said that floodwaters flowing from Calumpit town have been also affecting the municipality of Hagonoy.
 
As of Wednesday, the floodwater level was still high and the current was still strong at Labangan Channel in Hagonoy, GMA News' Athena Imperial said in the live report.
 
Parts of Barangay San Pedro near the channel were flooded, and waters have seeped inside homes.

In the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's 6 a.m. report on Wednesday, a total of 18,079 families or 92,582 people have been displaced in Bulacan province. —ALG, GMA News
