Back flooding from Calumpit and other areas plagues Hagonoy, Bulacan
(Updated 9:23 a.m.) Just as the weather was improving, flooding has started to affect residents in the municipality of Hagonoy in Bulacan, a report on News To Go on Wednesday said.
This was due to back flooding, or the floodwaters flowing down from Calumpit and other nearby provinces.
As of Wednesday, the floodwater level was still high and the current was still strong at Labangan Channel in Hagonoy, GMA News' Athena Imperial said in the live report.
Parts of Bgy. San Pedro near the channel were flooded, and waters have seeped inside homes.
Residents said the floodwaters started going up at around 11 p.m. Tuesday, prompting the evacuation of some families living near the channel.
Some families, however, refused to leave their homes, choosing instead to move their appliances and other things to a higher place in their houses.
Narding dela Cruz, one of the residents, said he will see first if the floodwaters will continue to rise before he makes a decision on whether to evacuate or not.
The Rosales family, on the other hand, said they were used to this situation, and will just bear with the inconvenience brought about by the flood. Their children, on the other hand, were already brought to the evacuation center.
Barangay officials said they remain on alert to assist residents if the floodwaters suddenly rise.
Calumpit evacuees
Meanwhile, in Calumpit, more than 700 residents were still seeking shelter at evacuation centers as of Wednesday, a separate report on News To Go on Wednesday said.
Back flooding has also affected Calumpit, with floodwaters coming from Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and other nearby areas.
Low-lying Calumpit is one of the catch basins in Bulacan, the report said.
According to the local government, 24 barangays in Calumpit were flooded.
Floodwaters were highest in Bgy. Sapang Bayan, where the water level reached four feet.
