According to Bacoor City police chief, Supt. Rommel Estolano, the suspects had robbed two taxi drivers earlier that morning.
The first victim, Alwin Asejo, had been tied up and robbed of P4,700 at around 12 a.m.
Then, at around 2 a.m., the suspects stole Leonardo Labonete's cab.
Bacoor City and Cavite Highway Patrol Group police officers caught up with the suspects, and chased them from Bacoor Boulevard until Barangay Molino 7, where the shootout took place.
Two pistols, .45 caliber and a 9mm, were recovered from the scene.
Estolano said that the suspects could have been members of the Salvacion Criminal Gang - a group that specialized in victimizing taxi drivers. — DVM, GMA News
