Abra plans to declare state of calamity after Ineng isolated barangays

Local government officials are studying the possibility of declaring a state of calamity in the province of Abra due to the devastation caused by Typhoon Ineng, a report on GMA News' Unang Balita said Tuesday.

Three barangays in Bangued were isolated, while electricity has been cut off in 18 municipalities after electric posts were damaged by the typhoon.

Many landslides in the municipality of Pidigan were also reported.

Once a state of calamity is declared, the local government will be able to use the calamity fund for rehabilitation.

One dead, one missing

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said a person died of drowning in the municipality of San Juan. The fatality was identified as Mark Jun Tobias, 24, who drowned after he fell in the river.

On the other hand, a man remains missing after he was swept away by the current in the Manabo River.

The PDRRMC is still collating information from the province's 27 municipalities regarding the extent of damage Typhoon Ineng has caused.

Officials are still assessing the cost of damage to agriculture and infrastructure.

The provincial government has already given relief goods to those in need. —KG, GMA News
