Dredge floaters with Chinese markings found off Zambales for third time

For the third time, a set of dredge floaters with Chinese markings were discovered by local fishermen in waters off Zambales province.

A report on GMA News' Unang Balita said the dredge floaters or dredging pipes found off Iba town, were at least a kilometer long.

Local fishermen recovered and brought the floaters to a vacant lot near the beach in Iba town.

Despite the markings, authorities said it was still difficult to say if the floaters are owned by China.

Provincial engineer Domingo Mariano, meanwhile, said that the floaters could damage the coral reefs in the area.

On Wednesday, The Philippine Coast Guard said its personnel found another set of one-kilometer dredge floaters with Chinese markings off Iba town.

Similar dredge floaters were also found near the same area last July.

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, chairman of the Senate committee on national defense and security, announced last May that he will lead an inquiry into alleged Chinese reclamation and dredging activities in the disputed seas.
