LOOK: Cebu City cops hold robbery simulation as APEC, IEC draw closer

Police in Cebu City on Wednesday held a simulation of a bank robbery, as they continued to prepare for two upcoming international events the city will host.

The Central Visayas regional intelligence division and city police took part in the exercise at a bank at Fuente Osmeña Street, GMA Cebu's Chona Carreon reported.

In the simulation, four motorcycle-riding men held up the bank at 10:33 a.m., with police learning of the robbery five minutes after it broke out.

Police from the Mobile Patrol Group needed two minutes to get to the bank, while investigators from Police Station 2 arrived 10 minutes later.

The police then conducted a pursuit operation and intercepted the getaway vehicle at P. del Rosario Street.

Beat patrol police then arrested the robbers at Archbishop Reyes Avenue.

The simulation aims to ensure police preparedness for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in Cebu in August.

Cebu will also be the host of the International Eucharistic Congress in January.

Meanwhile, security guards said the simulation helped them stay alert for possible holdups.

Similar simulations are scheduled in Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu Cities in the next few days. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
