25 houses washed away by flash floods in Angeles City

(Updated 3:36 p.m.) Twenty-five houses in a barangay in Angeles City, Pampanga were brought down by flash floods over the weekend, a TV report said Monday.

A News To Go report said the floods started on Saturday due to heavy monsoon rains, washing away houses in Barangay Abacan.

Some residents tried to rebuild the houses, while others evacuated the area, it added.

The flash floods also damaged some parts of the neighboring barangay's gate and a bridge.

A large portion of a bridge was also destroyed by flash floods in Barangay San Isidro in Magalang town, where at least 100 families were evacuated.

The bridge is currently passable only by bicycles and motorcycles.

Meanwhile, residents near fishing areas in Bani town in Pangasinan are still advised to be on alert for high tides despite better weather conditions, a separate report on News To Go said.

The town was placed under a state of calamity over the weekend because of floods brought about by monsoon rains.

As of Monday, residents have returned to their homes.

In Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, some five hectares of crops were destroyed because the land has been under flood for two weeks, a separate report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali said.

The flood also brought garbage on the farms, causing more problems to the farmers, who will have to wait for the water to go down before they can plant anew, it added.

Floods were also reported in Alaminos City and Calasiao, where classes are still suspended from elementary to high school. — Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/ALG/RSJ, GMA News
