Kennon Road now passable after Monday landslide

Motorists may again pass through Kennon Road in going to Baguio City.

One lane of the road was opened around 5 p.m. on Thursday, three days following a major landslide that killed at least two people, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Friday.

The Department of Public Works and Highways continued to conduct clearing operations amid heavy downpour in a bid to open Kennon Road in time for the long weekend, according to the report.

"Hindi ko naman sinasabing 100 percent na safe. But I believe substantially we have already widened the road we have removed the debris," said DPWH Regional Director Edilberto Carabbacan.

"I believe that it will be safe for our motorists to travel if they will only follow our advisories. Makita niyo along the way may advisories kami. We even put caution tape on both side of the road so the motorists will just contain themselves sa lugar na iyon," he added. — Keith Richard D. Mariano/RSJ, GMA News
