9-year-old student in viral photo feted by Mandaue cops

A nine-year-old boy whose photo while studying on a sidewalk has gone viral on social media was feted by police in Mandaue City in Cebu on Monday.

 

Police also promised Daniel Cabrera they would support his studies after they learned that he wants to be a policeman, GMA Cebu's Alan Domingo reported.

 

Cabrera was depicted in a viral photo doing his homework on a small bench outside a fast-food outlet.

 

At Monday's flag ceremony, Cabrera was welcomed by Mandaue City police OIC Superintendent Julian Entoma.

 

Entoma returned Cabrera's salute and said he admired the young boy's determination to study despite poverty. He also had the boy sit on his office chair to give him a feel of being a police official.

 

The OIC also escorted the boy in inspecting the city police's offices. The boy was also given a chance to write on the police blotter.

 

The boy, whose mother runs a carinderia, also got the rockstar treatment at Subangdaku Elementary School, where he studies. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
