Pikit town in Cotabato under state of calamity due to hot weather
Yet another area—Pikit town in Cotabato province— has been placed under a state of calamity due to the hot weather in recent months.
The town's disaster risk reduction and management council estimated P70 million in damage to crops and livestock because of the hot weather, GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon" reported Wednesday.
With the quick response fund, the town seeks to help some 2,000 workers in farms and poultry farms affected by the hot weather.
Earlier, Kidapawan City hase declared a state of calamity after it suffered an estimated P100 million in crop damage from a prevailing dry spell that began months earlier.
Four tribal communities in Kidapawan city are reportedly short on water supply.
Meanwhile, rain in recent days prompted the Zamboanga City agriculture office to ask the Department of Agriculture to hold off cloud seeding plans.
The city agriculture office said the cloud seeding may not be needed for now due to the rain, which has raised the water levels at irrigation dams and rivers.
But it said the cloud seeding may resume once the hot weather starts to affect the crops again. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
