Dog adobo downs 6 in Pangasinan province

Six people fell ill after eating a dish of "adobong aso" in San Carlos City in Pangasinan province over the weekend.

The six complained of diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pains, GMA Dagupan's Jasmin Gabriel reported Monday on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon."

According to investigators, the dish was served at the birthday of a local resident on Saturday.
Those who ate the dish said the felt stomach pains shortly afterward.

The six were brought to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital where doctors are monitoring their health.

For its part, the hospital is coordinating with the city health office to check if the dog that was slaughtered and cooked for the adobo had rabies.

Under the Animal Welfare Act, it is illegal to kill "any animal other than cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits, carabaos, horses, deer and crocodiles" except when required by religious rituals or by "ethnic custom of indigenous cultural communities". — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
