2 tricycle drivers killed in separate incidents in Pangasinan

A tricycle driver was gunned down while another was killed in a collision with an Asian utility vehicle in Pangasinan province Monday.

In San Carlos City, motorcycle-riding men gunned down tricycle driver Lito Cancino in Barangay Quezon, GMA Dagupan reported Tuesday.

Cancino was driving his tricycle and transporting three minors when he was shot. The minors were unhurt.

Police said Cancino had received a death threat before he was killed.

"Maaaring minanmanan yan dahil dati meron na siyang death threat na natatanggap," San Carlos deputy police head Chief Inspector Gregorio Abungan said.

Recovered from the crime scene were slugs from a cal-.45 pistol.

Police have arrested two of four possible suspects, but did not name them pending further investigation.

"So far, personal grudge, matagal nang alitan yan. Sabi ng mga pamilya nila na medyo napalaki, yun nga nagbunga nang hindi maganda," said Abungan.

The victim's family called for justice.

Meanwhile, the second incident occurred in Calasiao town where tricycle driver Philip Tan-Gaute was killed while three others were wounded after his tricycle collided with an Asian utility vehicle.

The three injured included two of Gaute's passengers and AUV driver Norman Suril.

"Naka-standby po yung motorized tricycle habang naghihintay ng pasahero then suddenly may dumating na Toyota Avanza," said Calasiao police station duty officer Senior Inspector Isaias Caranto.

Suril admitted having drunk alcoholic beverages but insisted he did not see the tricycle because it had no lights. He also insisted he was not speeding.

"Oo aaminin ko, kagabi nakainom ako. Isang bottle. Opo, nakainom po ako," he said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
