Hot weather a boon for these Pangasinan salt ‘farmers’

The hot weather may be a bane for many farmers as it threatens their crops, but it may be a blessing to these other "farmers" from Pangasinan.

In Dasol town, salt farmers expect the hot weather to help boost their output, GMA Dagupan's Jeeson Alamar reported on "Primera Balita" Tuesday.

"Mainit, nakakakuha kami ng isang kahon, dalawang kaing... talagang tiyaga talaga, kung pagod ka 'di mo sasabihing mainit, yan talaga obligasyon magtrabaho," said salt "farmer" Neneng Gatdula.

Dasol has gained a reputation as a source of quality salt.

Presently, it is getting orders from nearby towns and even from other provinces like Bulacan.

Two "tabos" of salt can fetch P15 to P20, while half a balde (pail) can fetch P40 to P50. A sack can fetch P150 to P200.

Vendors said they can earn up to P100 a day from selling the salt.

"Kung minsan meron ding mga P100 din lang o mahigit sa isang araw," said Marietta Seno. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
