Davao City Jail releases 8 inmates for good behavior

For following the rules and showing good behavior, eight inmates of the Davao City Jail on Thursday walked out of theirs cells as free men.

The eight are among 18 inmates qualified for release this year under the Bureau of Corrections Act of 2013, GMA Davao reported Friday.

Jail Warden Simeon Dolojo Jr., who signed the release order, said the eight racked up enough "points" that would shorten their jail terms.

"Iwasan talaga nilang lumaba(g) sa mga batas natin at ibang infractions para araw-araw mabawasan (ang sentensiya nila) at mabigyan sila ng credits," he said.

One of the eight, Raul Gabucan, had been jailed for 11 years over charges of illegal recruitment.

Another inmate, John Rey Omega, was jailed for a holdup incident.

The two said that while they could stand the hardships of being in jail, they could not bear to be away from their families.

— Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
