LOOK: 2 hurt as taxi overturns in Davao City

At least two people were injured when a taxi flipped over in the Bago Aplaya area in Davao City before dawn Thursday.

The taxi was allegedly speeding when it hit an electric post and then overturned, according to a report by GMA Davao.

Injured were taxi driver Arthur Benogsudan and passenger Ryan Batayan.

A photo by GMA Davao's Helen Quiñanola posted on the Facebook account of "Una Ka Bai!" showed the taxi sustained heavy damage.

Witnesses said the vehicle was heading for the downtown area from Toril when it suddenly swerved to the opposite lane and hit a post.

"Pagkakita namin sa kanya, ang bilis ng pagkatakbo niya. Bale parang kumabig siya papunta (sa kabilang lane)," said witness Carlo Vince Ibañez.

"Ayon sa mga nakakita, mabilis talaga ang pagpapatakbo ng driver. Makikita rin sa skid mark doon. May bata rin na nagsabing may pasahero raw kaya nakipagagawan (sa ibang taxi) pero as of now hindi pa natin ma-prove," said traffic investigator PO3 Joel Digamo.

But Batayan claimed the driver was trying to avoid a collision with a truck, and lost control of the taxi. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
