Students, Muslim community members light candles at UP Cebu to seek justice for SAF 44

Students and members of the Muslim community in Cebu early this week lit candles to call for justice for 44 Special Action Force troopers killed in a clash in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last Jan. 25.

The inter-faith candle-lighting activity was held at the Oblation square of the University of the Philippines campus in Cebu on Monday afternoon, GMA Cebu reported Tuesday.

Present at the gathering were representatives of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, and some teachers and students.

During the activity, the participants called for truth and justice for the 44 SAF troopers.

Aside from the 44 SAF men, 18 Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters and several civilians were killed in the Mamasapano incident.

Bayan Muna party list Rep. Neri Colmenares voiced suspicions the United States had a role in the Jan. 25 incident.

He also said the US, along with President Benigno Aquino III and resigned Philippine National Police chief Alan Purisima, should be held accountable for the bloodbath. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
