Kwitis blamed for New Year fire in Cagayan de Oro

A wayward kwitis (baby rocket) is being eyed as the cause of a fire that razed the stockroom of a motorcycle parts shop in Cagayan de Oro City in the first hours of the New Year.

 

The fire started of the second floor, a few minutes into the new year in Barangay Puerto, GMA Northern Mindanao's Jeik Compo reported.

 

Building owner Anne Obando said they were holding a party when they heard an explosion from the rooom where stocks were kept. She said it is possible a kwitis caused the fire.

 

"Kwitis siguro yon kasi may fireworks diyan sa tapat," she said.

 

Firefighters managed to put out the fire after 45 minutes.

 

Arson investigators estimated the fire caused some P200,000 in property damage. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
