Flood waters in some parts of Visayas, Mindanao tower above head level

Residents in some parts of the Visayas and Mindanao were forced to evacuate their homes as flood waters rose above their heads due to the effects of Tropical Cyclone Seniang (Jangmi).

According to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita, in Tagoloan town in Misamis Oriental, at least 35,000 people were affected as flood waters closed over their homes.

The Mambayaan bridge in the town of Balingasag remained impassable after it was damaged by raging floods, it added.

In Ormoc City in Leyte, residents—among whom numbered people with disabilities—were forced to evacuate their homes as flood water rose in their area, the report said.

Some residents were also seen rescuing their pets, it added.

Meanwhile, authorities have placed Bohol province under a state of calamity, the same report said.

It noted that at least two children died after being electricuted when Seniang hit the province.

In the meantime, a school in Maribojoc town was burned down after it caught fire—also during the storm, it added.

In Sibonga town in Cebu province, a bridge was destroyed while at least 200 people were evacuated due to floods in the area, the report said.

The report noted that floods in the area were higher because the storm's arrival coincided with high tide.

Meanwhile, in Butuan City, some roads remain impassable due to a landslide, the report said, noting that the Department of Public Works and Highways is currently addressing the problem.

Authorities are expecting the roads to clear on Wednesday, it added.
