P0.50 jeepney fare rollback likely in Central Visayas

Commuters in Central Visayas could soon be paying 50 centavos less for their jeepney rides after most transport groups in the region informally agreed to a fare reduction.

The rollback now awaits a formal order from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board head office, GMA Cebu's Chona Carreon reported Thursday.

"Iko-consolidate natin ang mga statement nila at ipo-proseso natin ito sa head office," said LTFRB Central Visayas Regional Director Reynaldo Elnar.

But not all are in agreement about the amount to be rolled back.

At least one group, the Consumers Rights for Economic Welfare Inc., said the rollback should be P1 due to successive fuel price rollbacks.

"We firmly believe that a one-peso fare reduction will just be fair and honest move and is considered a win-win solution to all of us consumers," CREW president Elias Sabang said. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
