Cebu priests to include disaster preparedness in homilies

Aside from spiritual pointers, churchgoers in Cebu may soon expect something else from their parish priests at Mass: disaster preparedness tips.

This is after Augustinian priests in Cebu disclosed they will include disaster preparedness and risk mitigation in their homilies, GMA Cebu's Vic Serna reported.

The report said this is after the Augustinians took part in disaster risk reduction and management activities in the province.

On the other hand, the Augustinians said they are ready to tap their facilities to help people who may be affected by a calamity.

For its part, the Cebu provincial disaster risk reduction and management office was heartened over the initiative of the Augustinians.

It said this will increase not only the faith of Cebu residents but also their sense of bayanihan during calamities. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
