Fish kill reported in Cavite river

A fish kill was reported Thursday in a river in Cavite province's Rosario town, with residents there advised not to eat the fish from the area for now.

Rosario town mayor Jose "Nonong" Ricafrente said they have sent some samples to a laboratory for testing to see if they are safe to eat.

"Huwag muna nila kainin muna hanggang hindi safe ilabas ng laboratory," Ricafrente said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Citing initial information reaching him, he said the fish kill was reported at the Malimango River.

Ricafrente said most of the dead fish are tilapia.

Some three banyeras (buckets) of dead fish had been collected from the area as of Thursday morning, he said.

"Pina-laboratory namin ang isda kung anong dahilan," he said. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
