18 barangays in Bulacan flooded after days of heavy rain

Eighteen barangays in San Miguel town in Bulacan on Sunday experienced severe flooding due to continuous rain since Typhoon Luis entered the Philippine Area of responsibility last Friday.

A report on GMA News TV's "Balitanghali" said flooded barangays included Bagong Silang, Bantog, Bardias, Baritan, Batasang Bata, Batasang Matanda, Buga, Cambio, Ilog Bulo, King Kabayo, Lambakin, Maligaya, Mandile, Pinambaran, Pulong Duhat, Sacdalan, Salacot, and Sta. Lucia.

Also it said, Barangay King Kabayo experienced waist-deep flood as of Sunday morning due to continuous rain that triggered a flash flood.

The report quoted residents of Barangay Salacot as saying this was the first time they experienced flooding in their area.

Residents blamed the reconstruction of the Bulo Dam for the flood, the report said. The dam used to stop flood coming from the mountains during heavy rain, the report said.

As of Sunday afternoon, power supply in some barangays was cut off, even as local authorities were considering mandatory evacuation of residents due to severe flooding.

In its 11 a.m. update, PAGASA said Typhoon Luis may make landfall Sunday afternoon in the Cagayan-Isabela area in Northern Luzon. — Bianca Rose Dabu /LBG, GMA News
