Flash floods destroy 35 houses in Cagayan de Oro


At least 1,506 people were affected by flash floods that hit two barangays in Cagayan de Oro City Saturday night, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Sunday evening.

In its report, the NDRRMC said the flash floods, which were caused by heavy rain, hit Barangays Cugman and Cusa in Cagayan de Oro City at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Citing initial information, the NDRRMC said the floods affected 51 families or 156 people in Barangay Cugman; and 270 families or 1,350 people in Barangay Gusa.

The floods also destroyed 35 houses and damaged 36 more in the two barangays.

Some 71 families or 339 people were brought to evacuation centers, including 41 families or 177 people in Cugman and 30 families or 162 people in Gusa.

Families from Cugman were brought to the Cugman Elementary School while those from Gusa were brought to the Gusa covered court and day care center. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
