Palparan presence affects NBI clearance processing at NBI Malolos

The presence of retired Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan Jr. affected the early morning processing of clearance applications at the National Bureau of Investigation office in Bulacan province.

Security personnel restricted the movements of the applicants, many of whom had been in line even before 6 a.m., radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

A photo tweeted by Nielsen showed many of the clearance applicants were already in line even before the convoy bearing Palparan arrived.

The convoy bearing Palparan arrived at the NBI Malolos office shortly after 6 a.m.

Soldiers, police personnel and NBI agents secured Palparan and brought him to the NBI Malolos office while the Malolos Regional Trial Court has not yet opened.

Palparan is to be arraigned before the Malolos RTC on charges related to the disappearance of two students, Karen Empeño and Sherlyn Cadapan, in Bulacan in 2006. Palparan had denied the allegations.

An updated dzBB report said Palparan is expected to see the relatives of the victims face to face at Monday's arraignment.

NBI and military agents arrested Palparan in Sta. Mesa, Manila last week.

A Bulacan court ordered Palparan transferred to the Bulacan Provincial Jail but Palparan's camp had opposed the order, while the NBI raised issues on security and Palparan's health. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
