Still wheelchair-bound after 4 surgeries, seaman kills ortho surgeon

An orthopedic surgeon died after being shot by a disgruntled patient inside his clinic at the compound of Southwestern University in Cebu City Thursday morning.

The surgeon initially identified as Chris Abo was rushed to the Sacred Heart hospital but was declared dead before noon, GMA Cebu's Jun Veliganio reported.

His assailant, former seaman Wilfredo Cabonsoli, 72, fatally shot himself in the head after the shooting.

Cabonsoli was allegedly sore at Abo because he was wheelchair-bound even after four operations conducted by Abo on his spine.

The patient's companion was surprised that Cabonsoli brought a handgun concealed in his sling bag.

Police are looking into how Cabonsoli managed to bring a firearm inside the clinic. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
