Indon barge runs aground in Cebu
An Indonesian barge ran aground off a wharf after encountering big waves at Minglanilla town in Cebu province late Tuesday night.
The "Nania" barge had dropped anchor off neighboring Naga City but encountered strong winds and big waves from Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun), GMA Cebu's Jun Veliganio reported.
"Kami ang tagabantay dito kagabi. Nung pagtingin namin akala namin dadaong ang [barge]. Nataranta na kami dahil napakalaki kaya tumakbo na kami," said guard Arthur Aquino.
Investigation showed the barge dropped anchor to wait for the sea conditions to calm, but the rope tied to the anchor snapped due to the bad weather.
The three Indonesian crewmembers were safe, but may have to pay for the damages to the wharf.
Glenda exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility Thursday, after causing at least 38 deaths. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
