Unlicensed LPG refilling station in Ilocos Sur shuttered after explosion hurts 5

A liquefied petroleum gas refilling station in Bantay town in Ilocos Sur was ordered closed Monday after an explosion that injured at least five workers over the weekend.

The explosion on Friday was traced to a leak in the LPG storage tank, GMA Ilocos reported on Monday.

Sustaining second- and third-degree burns were Pablo Bermudez, Renato Paet, Moises Gadut and Cesar Espiritu. A fifth worker, Raden Alforo, sustained minor injuries.

Initial investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection showed the storage tank was being lifted by a crane but was accidentally dropped.

Meanwhile, an investigation by the local government found the establishment lacked a building permit, a BFP permit, and a permit to operate from the Department of Energy. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
